Melanie Currie (Senior Teacher/Choregrapher)

Melanie (Julie's Daughter) started dancing at just 2 1/2. Under her mother and aunt's guidance she trained extensively in all facets of theatrical dance. As a pre professional, she competed locally and interstate, and was very successful winning major awards and championships. Melanie has won the Classical Championship at Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing and was a finalist in the “Ballet Teachers Workshop”.

Melanie is a very accomplished classical dancer and has trained in Classical Cecchetti and A.T.O.D and was an honours student in both syllabi. She was chosen for the Cecchetti Scholars Class for 2 consecutive years.

At 15, Melanie successfully auditioned for the National Theatre Ballet School in Melbourne and was awarded the most outstanding jazz student for her year. After being awarded a fulltime scholarship, she went on to study at the Dance Factory, training in many genres of dance and performance.

Melanie has trained under many elite, well known choreographers and teachers such as: Jason Coleman, Barbara Warren-Smith, David McAllister, Ann Jenner, Adrian Fryer, Sonali Versace, Kelly Akers, Colin Peasley and Kelvin Coe.

As a dancer, she has performed in the Aids Benefit Concert at the State Theatre, toured overseas as a Body Impact Dancer, Joanne Adderly Productions, Madonna Show, Ren & Stimpy Show, Power Rangers Stage Show, L'Oreal Model, Mary Kay at the World Congress Centre and was a Cheerleader for the Melbourne Tigers.

On her return to the area, Melanie began her teaching career with JRD. Melanie has been teaching for the past 12 years, sharing her passion for dance and extensive experience with her students. Melanie is at the forefront of the most contemporary dance styles and continually produces original and unique, award winning choreography.
