Julie began dancing locally at 6 1/2, learning all facets of theatrical dance, attaining qualifications in classical ballet. She successfully competed in many competitions locally and metropolitan and was awarded many scholarships and major awards.

Julie appeared on local TV Talent Quest and won a performance on the ‘King Corky' Show on Nine Network – Melbourne.

At 11, Julie travelled to Melbourne to continue her studies with Jennifer Stielow (F.I.S.T.D) and won the Enrico Cecchetti Medals and Scholarships. Julie successfully competed interstate and was a quarter finalist on ‘Showcase' on the Ten Network – Melbourne. Julie performed in many concerts, her most memorable with John Farnham and was honored to be invited to take class with the Russian Ballet during their Australian Tour.

Julie was a student at the Australian Ballet School , then continued studies with Kathleen Gorham and Martin Rubinstein and performed a season with the Sydney Festival Ballet Company. Unfortunately due to a spinal condition, Julie was unable to continue her dancing career and went on to open her own school.

Julie opened her own school in 1971, starting with humble beginnings in Traralgon and Morwell, following with Moe eight years later. She has had many schools throughout Gippsland that have since been passed onto former students. Today Julie Ryan Dancers has grown to be a formidable force with two very large studios in Traralgon and Moe.

Julie is very proud of the wonderful success of “Julie Ryan Dancers” now in its 39th Year, with many past and present students achieving tremendous success over the years, from dancing with the Bavarian State Ballet and Ballet of the Opera of the Rhin to performing in musicals such as “High School Musical” and “We Will Rock You”.

Julie has internationally recognized teaching qualifications, attaining her Licentiate (Cecchetti London) and Associate A.T.O.D in classical ballet syllabus. Julie is an experienced adjudicator and has adjudicated at various competitions around Melbourne and interstate.
