Melanie Currie (Senior Teacher/Choregrapher)

Melanie (Julie's Daughter) started dancing at just 2 1/2. Under her mother and aunt's guidance she trained extensively in all facets of theatrical dance. As a pre professional, she competed locally and interstate, and was very successful winning major awards and championships. Melanie has won the Classical Championship at Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing and was a finalist in the “Ballet Teachers Workshop”. Melanie is a very accomplished classical dancer and has trained in Classical Cecchetti and A.T.O.D and was an honours student in both syllabi. She was chosen for the Cecchetti Scholars Class for 2 consecutive years. At 15, Melanie successfully auditioned for the National Theatre Ballet School in Melbourne and was awarded the most outstanding jazz student for her year. After being awarded a fulltime scholarship, she went on to study at the Dance Factory, training in many genres of dance and performance.

  • Julie Ryan ( Licentiate I.S.T.D (Cecchetti London), Associate A.T.O.D )

    Julie began dancing locally at 6 1/2, learning all facets of theatrical dance, attaining qualifications in classical ballet. She successfully competed in many competitions locally and metropolitan and was awarded many scholarships and major awards. Julie appeared on local TV Talent Quest and won a performance on the ‘King Corky' Show on Nine Network – Melbourne. At 11, Julie travelled to Melbourne to continue her studies with Jennifer Stielow (F.I.S.T.D) and won the Enrico Cecchetti Medals and Scholarships. Julie successfully competed interstate and was a quarter finalist on ‘Showcase' on the Ten Network – Melbourne. Julie performed in many concerts, her most memorable with John Farnham and was honored to be invited to take class with the Russian Ballet during their Australian Tour.
    Julie was a student at the Australian Ballet School , then continued studies with Kathleen Gorham and Martin Rubinstein and performed a season with the Sydney Festival Ballet Company. Unfortunately due to a spinal condition, Julie was unable to continue her dancing career and went on to open her own school.

  • Emma Taylor (Associate A.T.O.D, Cert IV in Dance Teaching and Management)

    Emma has been dancing since the age of four with Julie Ryan Dancers, where she was trained in all styles of theatrical dance. Emma has trained in both Cecchetti and the Australian Teachers of Dancing (A.T.O.D) Classical syllabus, attaining honours in her examinations.  Emma is now a qualified teacher of Australian Teachers of Dancing (A.T.O.D) Classical syllabus and is an Associate Member of A.T.O.D.

    Emma was very successful dancer, competing in many eisteddfods and competitions throughout Victoria.  Competition performances included solo and duo sections, championships, scholarships and troupes in Classical, Jazz, Tap, Character, National and Song and Dance. After returning from Melbourne, she started her teaching career with Julie Ryan Dancers, and has been teaching all styles of dance for nearly 10 years and her passion for dance and teaching continually grows.

  • Melissa Lia (Bachelor of Primary Education)

    Melissa began dancing at the age of 4 with Julie Ryan Dancers. Throughout her dancing years she trained in all facets of theatrical dance including Classical, Jazz, Tap, musical theatre, singing as well as drama, mime and speech. Melissa competed in many local, metropolitan and interstate eisteddfods, winning many awards and scholarship places.

    Melissa studied Australian Teachers of Dancing syllabus and was an Honours student in both Classical Ballet and Tap examinations. She was a cast member in many local theatre productions with the Latrobe Theatre Company including Oliver!, Open Season, Annie and Macbeth “a rock opera".

    Melissa began teaching all facets of theatrical dance in 2004 and joined the JRD faculty in 2005. She has extensive experience choreographing for solo, duo and troupe eisteddfod students, annual concert work, local events and fashion shows, school productions and recitals. Her student's have been very successful at many eisteddfods and festivals throughout victoria and interstate.

  • Chantelle Keane (Certificate IV in Dance & Performing)

    Chantelle started dancing with Julie Ryan Dancers at the age of four and has trained in all styles of theatrical dance.

    Chanelle has been an honours student in the A.T.O.D classical ballet syllabus up to and including intermediate level. She has successfully competed in many local and interstate competitions in solo, duo, troupe, championship and scholarship sections.

    Chantelle was awarded a scholarship to the Dance Factory and completed 12 months study in which she attained her Certificate IV in Dance and Performing. Chantelle then returned to JRD to broaden her knowledge and experience in teaching and share amongst us all her enthusiasm, passion and enjoyment of dance.

  • Luisa Bomba (Diploma of Dance and Performing Arts)

    Luisa started ballet at 4 yrs old and after completing her VCE was privileged to be accepted into The Australian Conservatoire of Ballet in Melbourne and on conclusion of the 3 year course she graduated with her Diploma of Dance. During this time Luisa performed soloist roles in full length ballets such as 'Romeo and Juliet and 'Swan Lake' performing alongside national and international guest artists from the Bolshoi and Royal Ballet. On return from a contract with Tokyo Disney, Luisa worked with the Victorian State Opera's 2014 season of La Traviata and aspires to grow as a professional performer, teacher and Choreographer.

  • Leanne Sincich (Senior Dance Teacher)

    Leanne started dance at the age of 6 in Morwell with The Joy Davey School of Dance. She studied all facets of dance including classical, jazz, tap, negro spiritual and national. Leanne competed in eisteddfods locally and in Melbourne, gaining many places, including entry in to exam scholarships.

    Leanne left dance at the age of 15 to concentrate on her studies. Leanne has had a long career in the engineering field, but has never really left dancing having been part of many adult dance classes over the years. In 2012 Leanne completed her ATOD Gold Bar classical ballet exam to enable her to teach. Over the past 2 years she has taught both ATOD tap and classical syllabus. Leanne is currently studying Certificate IV in Dance Teaching and Management with Transit Dance in Melbourne. She lives in Traralgon and has two teenage sons.

    Catherine Leviston (Senior Dance Teacher / Bachelor of Arts (Journalism))

    Catherine commenced dancing with Julie Ryan Dancers at 5 years of age and continued until the age of 21. She has trained in all dance styles including: classical, jazz, tap, contemporary/neo classical, character, national and song and dance.

    During this time she has performed in numerous eisteddfods throughout the state in solo, duo and troupe sections. As a result Catherine has been successful in winning numerous awards and competitions.

    Catherine has completed all Australian Teachers of Dancing (ATOD) examinations to an intermediate level attaining honors. Further to her dancing she has had vocal, drama and choir training at a VCE level, achieving excellent results. As a member of Class Act Productions, Catherine performed in many musical theatre productions including: Fiddler on the Roof, The Music Man and Macbeth and she continues to support local theatre.

    In 2011 Catherine thoroughly enjoyed expanding her experience in dance by assisting students and teachers in class, enabling her to promote the enjoyment and love of dance. Catherine has successfully completed a Bachelor of Arts (Journalism) and graduated in 2012.

  • Anna McKenzie (Pilates Instructor)

    Anna has been involved in the Education, Health and Fitness industry since 1986. In 1989 Anna attained her "Bachelor of Education" from Ballarat University majoring in Physical Education. After working in the Secondary school system for 4 years Anna left to travel and teach overseas for 12 months. On returning to Australia Anna concentrated on linking her educational expertise with her love for health and fitness, becoming a Group Exercise, Gym and Water Aerobics instructor. For the last 7 years Anna has been teaching in the Primary School sector.

    In 1995 Anna was offered the opportunity to become involved in Pilates, commencing training and becoming a qualified Pilates Instructor. Since 1995 she has taught on average 5 Pilate's classes per week. Anna believes Pilates compliments anyone's fitness program and is particularly important to dancers – whatever their age.
